17 OCT 2019 – LUXEMBOURG - - Representatives of Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) Nations came together to discuss the distant future of the SAC together with the operational military arm, Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW) and NSPA’s NATO Airlift Management Programme (NAMP) leadership.

Strategic Airlift Capability Acquires C-17 Simulator
08 AUG 2017 – PÁPA - - The 12 Nations of the Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) recently confirmed that the SAC program will acquire a C-17 Weapon Systems Trainer Simulator. The simulator will be built on Pápa Air Base and will provide the Heavy Airlift Wing increased flexibility and proficiency training options over the next 20 years.
Strategic Airlift Capability Receives First Permanent C-17 Engine
19 JUN 2017 – PÁPA - - The SAC Program have received delivery of its first-ever permanently stationed C-17 engine. The 11-million dollar Pratt and Whitney F117 engine, which is the most expensive single piece of a C-17, gives the SAC the capability to replace an entire engine on the C-17, usually within 24 hours.
Strategic Airlift Capability Opens New C-17 Hangar Complex at Pápa Air Base
17 NOVEMBER 2016 – PÁPA - - Earlier this year, the personnel of the 12-nation Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW), the NATO Airlift Management Program Office (NAM PO) and Boeing moved into a new custom-designed C-17 hangar complex at Pápa Air Base. On 17 November they hosted the Grand Opening ceremony.

Strategic Airlift Capability Moves to New Offices at Pápa Air Base
24 MAY 2016 – PÁPA - - During May and June 2016, the personnel of the 12-nation Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW), the NATO Airlift Management Programme Office (NAM PO) and Boeing relocate to new offices and facilities at Pápa Air Base. The office building, the warehouse/maintenance facility and the central utility building belonging to the SAC Hangar Complex project have now been completed. The new C-17 hangar building itself is to be finished and occupied later this year.

2016. május 24. – PÁPA - - 2016. május és június hónapban a 12-nemzeti Nehéz Légiszállító Ezred (HAW) személyi állománya, a NATO Légiszállítást Kezelő Program Iroda (NAM PO) és a Boeing cég munkatársai új irodákba és létesítményekbe költöznek az MH Pápa Bázisrepülőtéren. Elkészült a SAC hangár komplexumhoz tartozó irodaépület, a raktár és karbantartócsarnok, illetve a központi közműellátó épület is. Az új C-17 hangár és repülőgép karbantartó létesítmény ez év végén kerül átadásra.
Flying Crew Chief Proficiency Program Enhances the Cooperation of the Heavy Airlift Wing and Boeing
6 APR 2016 – PÁPA - - The Flying Crew Chief Proficiency Program is a successful joint effort of the Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW), the NATO Airlift Management Programme Office (NAM PO) and Boeing. Thanks to the program, the Flying Crew Chiefs (FCCs) of the 12-nation HAW have the opportunity to increase their proficiency on the C-17A Globemaster III aircraft in close coordination with Boeing.
Simulator Flight Training Contract Awarded to Boeing
5 JAN 2016 – PÁPA - - On 31 December 2015, Boeing was awarded a simulator flight training contract, which streamlines the training process of Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) personnel. The new arrangement enables the Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW) C-17 aircrews to conduct their continuation simulator training at a Boeing-owned simulator in Farnborough, United Kingdom.
New Transient Hazardous Material Storage Facility Completed at Pápa Air Base
17 DEC 2015 – PÁPA - - Member nations of the Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) are investing in the infrastructure at Pápa Air Base in order to enhance the ability of the base to serve as an air transportation hub. Completion of the new Transient Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) Storage Facility enables SAC to respond to a broader spectrum of its member nations’ airlift needs and will be operational from January 1, 2016.
Construction of SAC Hangar Complex Progressing Rapidly
26 OCT 2015 – PÁPA - - In November 2013, the member nations of the Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) approved the project plan to start work on a new hangar complex to be built at Pápa Air Base, Hungary. The construction work is proceeding in accordance with the work schedule, despite some technical challenges and minor changes initiated by the future users of the office buildings.
NAM Programme secures Air-to-Air Refuelling training for SAC fleet through a Foreign Military Sales Case
1 OCT 2015 – PÁPA - - On 22 September, one of the C-17s of the Strategic Airlift Capability executed an air-to-air refuelling training mission with a US Air National Guard KC-135 tanker aircraft operating from Geilenkirchen Air Base, Germany. This was the first AAR mission to take place under an agreement signed by SAC and the US Government.
First Cycle of SAC C-17 Fleet Heavy Maintenance Completed
22 JUL 2015 – PÁPA - The first Heavy Maintenance Cycle of the Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) Boeing C-17 Globemaster III fleet was completed today as the last one of the three aircraft, SAC 03, returned back to the program home base at HDF Pápa Air Base after undergoing successful depot-level scheduled maintenance at the Boeing facilities in San Antonio, Texas, in the United States.

10 MAR 2015 - PÁPA - - The Pápa Spring 5K Fun Run and Walk is a charity sports event organized annually by volunteers representing Strategic Airlift Capability organizations. This year the event that will take place on 20 June has been renamed to honor one of its founders, Technical Sergeant Jason McIlvaine who lost his life in a tragic diving accident in October 2014.

Heavy Maintenance Work for the First SAC C-17 Has Been Completed
11/3/2014 – PÁPA – – During the second half of year 2014 and early 2015, the Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) fleet of three C-17 aircraft is undergoing an extensive Heavy Maintenance work carried out by Boeing, the aircraft manufacturer. The first of the three aircraft bearing the registration SAC 01, rolled out of the Boeing Heavy Maintenance line during the second week of October.
SACs Cargo Handling Capability Rises to a New Level
10/14/2014 – PÁPA – – In October 2014 the Strategic Aircraft Capability program obtained a significant improvement to its ability to handle cargo at the program home field Hungarian Defence Forces (HDF) Pápa Air Base by receiving additional main deck loading and container handling vehicles. Among them, there is one vehicle that is very unique in its capabilities: HAW’s new AMSS Atlas K Loader can load up to five pallets weighing over 18 tons making it one of the biggest deck loaders.

Busy Times for the New SAC Interim Cargo Facility
4/7/2014 PÁPA – Approximately two months after being inaugurated for use, the Strategic Airlift Capability Interim Cargo Facility (ICF) at the Hungarian Defence Forces Pápa Air Base has immediately shown its value as an important addition to the cargo handling capability of the SAC operational arm Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW). On April 4, the facility received the first transit cargo that was stored in the facility for transport to its final destination marking an increase in the capability to use Pápa as a cargo hub for the logistics needs of the 12 SAC member nations.

On the occasion of the anniversary, His Excellency the President of Hungary and the Commander in Chief of the Hungarian Defence Forces, Mr. János Áder visited HDF Pápa Air Base to meet the personnel of the base and the Strategic Airlift Capability organizations and to receive an update on the multinational airlift cooperation.
