The Strategic Airlift Capability Heavy Airlift Wing Boeing C-17 Globemaster III aircraft are capable of responding to a variety of military and humanitarian airlift needs of the 12 nations that form the multinational Strategic Airlift Capability Program.
The SAC fleet of three C-17 aircraft have achieved over 12.000 flying hours since it began flight operations from Pápa Air Base in 2009. Among other things SAC aircraft have provided support to the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan (ISAF) since year 2009, the UN operations in Mali in 2013 and participated in the earthquake relief in Haiti and flood relief in Pakistan in 2010.
SAC C-17’s versatile capabilities that allow the aircraft to deliver personnel and cargo to even austere airfields in very demanding conditions have also been regularly used for training purposes by the 12 member nations of the program.
