Pápa and Ramstein Join to Save Lives
10 JUN 2015 - RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, GERMANY - - Strategic Airlift Capability Heavy Airlift Wing multi-national aircrew members from Pápa Air Base, Hungary, partnered with a United States Air Force Critical Care Aeromedical Transportation Team (CCATT) stationed at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, to receive two wounded patients June 8, 2015, in Bulgaria.


Patients are transferred from the SAC C-17 Globemaster III long-range cargo jet into an ambulance where they will be transported to receive further medical care June 8, 2015, at Ramstein Air Base, Germany. Ramstein Airmen looked after the patients as they were being transported by military members from Strategic Airlift Capability Heavy Airlift Wing based at Pápa Air Base, Hungary. The mission that consisted of a transport of patients with one in critical condition, traveling approximately 2,000 miles (over 3,200 kilometers) from Bulgaria to Ramstein for additional medical support, was the first time that the SAC member nation United States  and the Heavy Airlift Wing carried out a CCATT mission together.
